Rain Barrel Workshop (Sold Out)

  • Escuela Verde Newline Community Cafe 3618 West Pierce Street Milwaukee, WI, 53215 United States (map)

The Rain Barrel Workshop is sold out!

If you’re still interested in a rain barrel and learning how they work to protect our waterways, visit Fresh Coast Guardian’s RAIN BARRELS & CISTERNS page.

Get FREE water by the barrel from your roof and use it when it’s dry outside to give thirsty gardens, flowers, and trees a drink. Rain barrels also help prevent rain from becoming polluted stormwater runoff -- the biggest remaining threat to clean rivers and lakes. Sine 2002, with the help of MMSD’s Fresh Coast Guardians, MMSD rain barrels have captured over 1 million gallons of stormwater each time it rains.

Learn how to install and care for a rain barrel in the Valley Week Rain Barrel Workshop. Participants will learn about water conservation and the many benefits of using rain barrels. Rain barrels capture rainwater from your roof that you can use later when it's dry for thirsty gardens. They also help prevent rain from becoming polluted stormwater runoff, the biggest remaining threat to clean rivers and our Great Lakes.

One FREE rain barrel will be provided per owner-occupied household and registration is required. If you have received a free rain barrel in the past from MMSD, you are not eligible to receive another free rain barrel. Although anyone can attend the workshop, you must live in MMSD’s service area (includes all of Milwaukee County and some other municipalities) to be eligible for a rain barrel.

You will receive a certificate to pick up your free rain barrel at Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District’s (MMSD) main lobby Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4 pm.

Registration is limited to the first 30 households!

Environmental Restoration in the Valley

MVP’s mission is to revitalize and sustain the Menomonee River Valley as a thriving urban district that advances economic, ecological, and social equity for the benefit of the greater Milwaukee community. Since the organization was formed in 1999, there have been:

  • 300 acres of brownfields have been developed,

  • 1,000,000+ square feet of green buildings have been constructed, and

  • 60+ acres of new trails and park space have been installed, with 45 acres of native plants which have led to improved wildlife habitat and water quality.

This includes our own giant rain barrels, the Menomonee Valley Industrial Center, and Three Bridges Park! We continue our commitment on current projects!

This event is part of 2021 Valley Week, presented by Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. Valley Week is an annual event that invites you to explore and experience Milwaukee's Menomonee River Valley!

You are invited to explore and experience the Valley at more than a dozen events in just one week. From the Ultimate Beer Run 3.7K, happy hour river cruise, job fair, and so much more, Valley Week showcases some not-to-be-missed unique Valley experiences!
